Beat the Monday Blues – Pt 1

I can’t tell you how many Mondays, I’ve spent in pure misery. I experienced the whole Sunday-end-of-weekend anxiety for years.
.
I’d dread every moment. I’d be swallowed up in negative, drowning thoughts and emotions. Sometimes it was so bad, I couldn’t sleep Sunday nights and I’d have to take melatonin to get some sleep.
.
I’m pretty much on the other side of that. Last week was a pretty stressful week for me. I kept sinking into fear and had to continually bring myself back out of it. I did it quite successfully. I’m honestly flabbergasted how well things went.
.
For the next few weeks, I’m going to offer tips on dealing with Mondays. Things you can actually put into practice throughout your Monday or your whole week (which I would recommend).
.
Inhale to a count of four.
Hold your breath to a count of two.
Slowly exhale to a count of six.
Repeat multiple times.
If you struggle to maintain this breathing pattern, just focus on taking deep, full, calming breaths.
.
While breathing deeply notice the areas of your body that may be holding tension and do your best to relax them.
The space between your eyebrows.
Your jaw.
Your shoulders.
Your chest.
Your hips and glutes.
Your hands and feet.
If you like, you can imagine your breath dissolving the tension in your body.
.
Do this exercise every day. EVERY DAY! It will soon become automatic and you’ll be able to calm yourself down whenever you choose. I’ve been doing this for years and it works. Return to it anytime you feel overwhelmed. You don’t have to be powerless to your fear. You can overcome it.
